(Football news) Fenerbahçe S.K have completed the signing of Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea on a permanent deal after his reported loan move to Nottingham Forest failed at deadline day. After spending time in the academy of Anderlecht, the forward joined Standard Liege’s youth team and was soon promoted to the main squad and established himself as a prolific scorer.
Batshuayi went onto net 44 goals in 120 appearances for the Belgian club before moving to France. In 2014, the Belgium international signed for French club Marseille as he continued his great form in France and generated great interest from top clubs of every league. By this time, he also started to appear for the Belgian national team regularly. Finally, Chelsea managed to snap up the forward after a huge bidding war, although the Belgian could never establish himself in the starting eleven as he will always be remembered for his winning strike against West Brom which helped Blues clinch the Premier League title. After seeing that he was not getting regular game time, the forward went on to have loan spells with Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Crystal Palace, and Besiktas.
With Chelsea making so many signings to strengthen their squad, there was no place for Michy Batshuayi in Thomas Tuchel's plan. The player was already looking for a transfer as Batshuayi had a golden opportunity to stay in the Premier League when the newly promoted Nottingham Forest came for his signature on deadline day. However with Chelsea being busy with other transfers, they couldn’t send the paperwork at the right time. Hence the move collapsed, however, Chelsea acted quickly and sent the Belgian forward to a league where the transfer window is still open.
When an offer from Fenerbahçe came, it was a no-brainer for them to complete the transfer quickly. With only a year left on Batshuyai’s contract, the forward has officially ended his six-year-long association with the Blues. Batshuayi already has the experience of playing in the Turkish Leagues when he featured for Beskitas last year as the forward had a decent outing where he netted 14 goals in 33 appearances. His move to Fenerbahçe will provide an opportunity to compete at the European level as well. Fenerbahçe have started their season decently as they are currently sixth in the Turkish League with six points from four matches. Fenerbahçe take on Kayserispor in their next outing and we can expect Batshuayi to make his debut.
