(Football news) The Tilak Maidan Stadium experienced a goal fest on Monday evening as SC East Bengal took on FC Goa with the Gaurs looking to get their season back on track after a poor start and finally register some points on the table. The Red & Gold Brigade have also had a poor run in the Indian Super League so far, having failed to win any of their four matches played with two draws and two defeats going into the match against FC Goa.
The first goal came after just 14 minutes as FC Goa’s Alberto Noguera found the back of the net with a long range effort to register his first goal of the season. However, SC East Bengal responded promptly with a half volley equalizer by Antonio Perosevic just 12 minutes later with the shot hitting the right side post and deflecting inside the net. The match became a little feisty with Saviour Gama and Seriton Fernandes receiving yellow cards for poor challenges in the first half. FC Goa regained their lead through Spanish footballer Jorge Ortiz in the 32nd minute as he duly converted from the penalty spot after Seriton was fouled inside the box.
However, SC East Bengal equalized the second time through Amir Dervisevic just five minutes later from a freekick. The trend continued as FC Goa went again yet again after an own goal by Antonio Perosevic just before half-time after Devendra Murgaonkar’s header hit the Croatian and found the back of the net due to the deflection. The 29 year old forward redeemed himself in the second half when he scored in the 59th minute from a one-on-one situation after an unforced error by Glan Martins.
As one would have predicted, the trend continued with Alberto Noguera scoring his second and FC Goa’s fourth goal of the evening in the 79th minute after capitalizing on a low cross by Oritz. The goal was enough to ensure Juan Ferrando’s team secured their first win of the season so far while SC East Bengal are now the only team in the Indian Super League who are yet to win a single game and are currently at the bottom of the table. FC Goa will face 8th place Bengaluru FC at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Saturday while SC East Bengal will take on 6th place Kerala Blasters at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Sunday.
