According to a press release by Eurosport and PGA Tour, Anirban Lahiri started off great for the second week as he carded a 4-under 68 in the Opener of Farmers Insurance Open, picking up 7 birdies including all the four Par-5s of the Torrey Pines North Course.
Lahiri is now at T21, 4 shots off the lead. His partner, Alex Noren and ex Masters winner Patrick Reed bagged a share of the lead in the PGA Tour with 8 – under 64 each. Trailing behind them on the North Course is Scottie Scheffler with 65, whereas seasoned Korean star K.J Choi is amongst a dozen others tied at 6-under 66.
Lahiri said, "I played decent today, actually got lucky a little bit. I hit my driver offline quite a bit. Luckily I played the Par-5s well as well and I found most of the fairways on them so that was good."
Talking of his second round, he added, "Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be quite challenging and I am playing on the South Course . So yeah, I'm looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully minimise the mistakes again and I will try and take advantage of some of the Par -5s."
Eight-time PGA Tour champion Reed tied his 2nd lowest 1st round score on Tour. Noren picked his best PGA Tour result at the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open, getting defeated in a play off to Jason Day.
Out of 15 players that shot 66 or better, only Peter Malnati (66) and Ryan Palmer (66) did so on the South Course.
