(Tennis news) Andy Murray has been eliminated from the first round of the Miami Open by Dusan Lajovic 6-4 7-5. The 35 year old followed Emma Raducanu out of the tournament despite the Scotsman looking to bounce back from his third-round defeat to Jack Draper in Indian Wells last week. Murray was unable to take break-point opportunities in the first set and slipped 4-3 down before Lajovic wrapped up the set in 42 minutes. The Serbian tennis player served for the match at 5-4 in the second set but Murray managed to break back, only to lose his next service game as Lajovic went on to secure his first hard court win of the season.
Speaking after the match Andy Murray said “Some days you obviously don’t hit the ball your best. I served pretty well, but the rest of the game was a bit of a problem. I made a number of errors that obviously I wouldn’t expect to be making. I didn’t really feel like I moved particularly well, which is really important for me. I wasn’t expecting to play like that, even based on the last few days because I’ve been decent in practice. Obviously I was hoping to do much better here. Whether I stay and train here on the clay for a few days before heading to Spain, I’m not sure.”
Murray has won the Miami Open in 2009 and 2013 and victory against Lajovic would have resulted in a blockbuster clash against World Number 1 Carlos Alcaraz. Now it’s the Serbian who could face the Spaniard if he defeats Maxime Cressy and if Alcaraz overcomes Facundo Bagnis. Kyle Edmund was also knocked out of the Miami Open after losing to Wu Yibing 7-5 7-5 in what was his first match since the Australian Open.
