Diogo Jota signs new long term deal with Liverpool

(Football news) Liverpool have officially announced the renewal of Diogo Jota till 2027. Speaking about the renewal Jurgen Klopp said "What Diogo has brought to this team and this club since he arrived is there for all to see, so it is really good news that he has signed a new contract," Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp told the club's website. I have said before that Diogo is the player we hoped he would be but also a little bit better, so long may this continue." Liverpool have secured their future forward line after the departure of Sadio Mane. They have renewed the deals of Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota while Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz are also tied up for a long time.

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolves for a reported £45 million. He came into a Liverpool side that had one of the best attacking trios in football namely Salah, Mane and Firmino. Initially, everyone thought that Jota would just be a substitute but he slowly broke into the team and became a fan favourite. Jota's extension clearly shows that he is a part of Klopp's long term plans despite the arrival of Nunez and Diaz. His ability to play any position in the front three is a very big advantage. Jota has had good periods at Liverpool but injuries have slowed down his progress. He has never been a nailed on starter or had an incredible season which is something which might happen in the future.

The Portuguese is still only 25 years of age and has a lot of football left in him. Jota will be fighting for a starting spot with Firmino, Nunez and Luis Diaz which will make things harder for Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool had an amazing season last year where they won the FA Cup and the League Cup but fell inches short of Premier League and Champions League glory. This season will be a big test for them and they have already started it with a triumph in the Community Shield. It will be interesting to see if Sadio Mane's absence makes a difference.
