Denmark have become a powerhouse in Europe since the Euro 2020 as they became the second team to qualify for Qatar next year

(Football news) Denmark became the second team after Germany to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Ever since their remarkable run in the Euro 2020, Denmark have just gone strength to strength and have become a team to reckon with in Europe. They are currently ranked 10th in the world which gives an indication how far they have come.

In 2016 Denmark were ranked 46th in the world but a meteoric rise to the top 10 hasn’t been easy for them. After not qualifying for the 2016 Euros, the Denmark Federation completely changed their team and appointed Age Hareide as their coach, this move paid off as Denmark qualified for the 2018 World Cup and were eventually knocked out by the World Cup finalist Croatia in the round off 16 on penalties. Over the last year or so Denmark have become a powerhouse under new coach Kasper Hjulmand, after the horrific turn of events in Copenhagen when their talisman Christian Eriksen collapsed suddenly on the pitch, the Danish team have strengthened their resolve and played with a different passion all together.

With the recent motivation and drive they have scored 27 goals and conceded zero goals in the group stages, winning 8 matches out of 8 to qualify with almost a perfect record is quite an achievement from the world number 10 side. The Danish team at this point are probably the best side in the world based on current form. Even without their best player Eriksen on the field, they have found match winners in their squad in the form of Kjaer, Hojbjerg, Maehle and Damsgaard.

Simon Kjaer after qualifying for the World Cup said, ”We built up a crew and a mentality that is incredibly healthy and we have been eager to improve all the time. We share the best with each other and adding that to the quality we have, we can go a long way. We have come a long way already but we have only become hungrier."

Maehle added: "It means a lot, it's one of the coolest nights in the Park in a long time. It is fantastic. It's strong for us to win here, and we got this ticket to the World Cup."

Kasper Hjulmand after the match said, “I had feared that the match against Scotland away would be crucial but now we go to the World Cup to win it all. It is a great advantage that we have one year to prepare. We have shown we are hard to play against. We have a strong collective where we stand together.”
