(Football news) This summer, Real Madrid let Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane leave. The pair had been at the heart of the Real Madrid defence for over 6 years before finally saying goodbye. Real Madrid signed Bayern Munich defender David Alaba for free to reinforce their back line.
Alaba's arrival had a mixed reception by Real Madrid with people doubting his ability to replace either of Ramos and Varane. After just 7 games the Austrian has silenced his doubters with his versatility he has played at left back and center back and has gone from strength to strength.
His recovery pace and ball playing ability has brought a lot of quality to this Real Madrid side. His occasional bursts into the midfield and ball carrying ability has already made an impact on many games this season. Alaba has already racked up two assists from defence this season. Manager Carlo Ancelotti has publicly praised Alaba's ability to hold the defensive line. The Italian manager has also said that he intends to play Alaba as a center back henceforth unless there is a major injury crisis.
The Austrain's leadership quality is an incredible asset to Real Madrid. Alaba has settled with Real Madrid in no time and looks to be in it for the long haul. Despite all his experience at the highest stage, Alaba is still only 29 years of age and has his entire prime in front of him. David Alaba is already a Bayern Munich legend and if he continues playing like this then nothing can stop him from becoming a Real Madrid legend.
