(Football news) Daniil Medvedev will take on rival Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Italian Open semi-final after the Russian went past Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann 6-2 6-2. The 27 year old world number three has dropped just one set in the single tournament but faces the in-form Tsitsipas, who hasn’t dropped a single set on his run to the semi-final. 

Medvedev defeated Alexander Zverev ahead of his match with qualifier Hanfmann who was participating in his first ever ATP Masters 1000 quarter-final. Both players managed to break each other’s serve in the first three games but Medvedev went on to dominate after that, winning the match in just 80 minutes to book his place in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, world number 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame Borna Coric in the quarter-final. The Greek player lost to Novak Djokovic in Rome last year and showed no signs of weakness this time around, winning the match against Coric 6-3 6-4. Tsitsipas has already defeated home favourites Lorenzo Musetti and Lorenzo Sonego in the previous rounds and will now face his chances in the business end of the tournament, particularly with Djokovic and Alcaraz knocked out.
