(Cricket news) Virat Kohli's form is the talk of the cricketing world. There are reports which claim that the selectors will consider weighing up Virat Kohli's future if he fails to get runs in the two remaining T20Is and three ODIs against England. Virat Kohli hasn't been in good form but his numbers aren't all that disappointing. In Tests, he scored 2 fifties in the series against England. In the 3rd Test against South Africa he scored a very gritty 79 in a very tough situation. He is lacking consistency by his standards which is a big worry. There is no player who is ready to take over from Kohli in the red ball format and at the end of the day he is Virat Kohli.
In ODIs he did fail against West Indies but earlier in the 3 games against South Africa he scored 2 fifties. In ODIs there are players waiting for their opportunities but there is a lot of time left for the next World Cup. Virat Kohli could bounce back into form and become the undroppable player he was before the drop. T20Is is what is the immediate concern for both the player and the management. The stats do suggest that Kohli isn't facing a dry spell as he has scored 493 in his last 12 T20Is. He has 6 fifties and has an average of 61.62 in those games. However, it is safe to say that he isn't batting like he used to, even in the IPL. Despite a slump in form the BCCI is continuing to give Kohli rest.
The decision is being disputed by fans and experts. Kohli needs to get his rhythm back which will only happen when he plays. Ravi Shastri has been publicly saying that Kohli needs a significant break from all forms of cricket which is another to look at things. Looking at the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia, Kohli is very crucial for the side. India has very good players on the bench to replace Kohli if needed but Kohli is a different player to the rest. The former Indian skipper has big tournament experience and can handle the pressure. All the candidates who can replace Kohli such as Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav are pinch hitters who score most of their runs through boundaries.
All the grounds in Australia are very huge and hitting over the ropes will be very difficult. India will need a player like Kohli who will keep the scoreboard ticking with ones and twos. At the same time, form must also be taken into consideration. This problem will be solved if Kohli performs well in these two T20Is against England. It will be a very good challenge for Kohli where if he comes out on top then it will be a massive confidence booster.
