Teams eye qualification as NZs T20 Super Smash reaches its final stages

The Domestic T20 thrill is in full swing in New Zealand as the Dream 11 Super Smash is half way done and is now reaching its final leg. According to a press release by NZ Cricket, all eyes are expected to be on the Northern Knights and Spirit game tomorrow at Sheldon Park. Positioned at 5th and 4th on the respective men’s and women’s points tables, the Knights will have to quickly gear up to qualify in the top 3 for finals. The return of in form black caps captain Kane Williamson is likely to give them a much needed confidence boost in the remaining games. On the men’s table, last season finalists Auckland Aces are the only side with zero hopes of reaching the elimination finals. As of now, the defending champions Wellington Firebirds, Central Stags and Canterbury Kings are the front runners with top 3 positions respectively. The Kings and Firebirds will likely qualify for the final berths with one more win, however two wins will guarantee it. The Knights will be required to win big and one of the top three to lose all their remaining games. The Volts will also need to fire up their campaign and beat 2 of the top teams in the next 2 games against Firebirds and Kings and for one of the top 3 to get no more than one further win. The Volts will also need to lift their net run rate during the course. On the women’s ladder, triple defending champions the Wellington Blaze, the Auckland Hearts and Canterbury Magicians are leading with top 3 ranks respectively. If the Magicians beat the Spirit tomorrow, the Central Hind will be officially eliminated. The 5th ranked Sparks also have a game in hand, but their fate is out of their control. The Dream 11 Super Smash Elimination will be held on 11th February with the Grand final being played on 13th February 2021.
