(Cricket news) West Indies' worst nightmare has indeed come true. The Windies have now lost both their opening matches of the T20 World Cup. South Africa bounced back well after their loss against Australia despite Quinton de Kock making himself unavailable for the match.
West Indies were put into bat first after losing the toss and had a decent start. Ewin Lewis scored 35 ball 56, hitting 3 fours and 6 sixes in his innings. Lendl Simmons on the other hand was very cautious. Lewis was dismissed in the 11th over by Keshav Maharaj which derailed the West Indies innings. Nicholas Pooran was promoted to no. 3 but could only manage 12 runs before Maharaj dismissed him. Kagiso Rabada finally ended Simmons' struggle in the 14th over. The Windies opener had occupied the crease for 13 overs and scored just 16 runs off 35 balls. Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle did get a small partnership going but Dwaine Pretorius got rid of Gayle who only made a run a ball 12. Andre Russell, Shimron Hetmyer and Dwayne Bravo couldn't do much damage as the West Indies innings came to an end at 143/8.

Skipler Temba Bavuma walked into bat with new opening partner Reeza Hendricks. Bavuma was dismissed in the very first over after Andre Russell ran him out. Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen steadied the ship by putting together 57 runs. Akeal Hosein provided a much needed breakthrough as he got Hendricks on 39. Aiden Markram smashed a 26 ball 51, hitting 2 boundaries and 4 maximums to get the Proteas over the line. Anchoring the run chase, van der Dussen stayed not out on 43. The Windies bowling was nowhere near up to the standards which made it very easy for the South Africans.
Every match after this is a virtual do or die for West Indies starting with Bangladesh on Friday. South Africa's next game is against Sri Lanka on Saturday.
