(Cricket news) After their thumping win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first game, Punjab Kings lost by 6 wickets to Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR on the other hand bounced back after a tough loss against RCB to make it 2 wins out of 3. Shreyas Iyer won the toss elected to bowl first making it 8 games out of 8 games out of 8 where the toss winning captain has elected to bowl first in this edition of the IPL.
Batting first, PBKS could only manage 137 runs in 18.2 overs. Umesh Yadav continued his dream form as he picked up 4/23 in his 4 overs. Tim Southee picked up 2 wickets while Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shivam Mavi picked up a wicket each. Bhanuka Rajapaksa was the only batter who crossed the 30 run mark. Odean Smith was at the crease with a wicket in hand and 1.5 overs left but Arshdeep Singh unfortunately got run out which meant that PBKS missed out on some valuable runs. The KKR seamers proved to be too good for the Punjab batters on the day.
With a low target to chase, KKR started off a bit sluggish after losing 4 wickets for just 51 runs in 7 overs. Kagiso Rabada and Odean Smith got a scalp each while Rahul Chahar picked up 2 wickets. From then on it was the Andre Russell show, the Jamaican smashed 70 off just 31 balls hitting 2 boundaries and 8 massive sixes. Sam Billings offered great support with almost a run a ball 24. Umesh Yadav was named the man of the match for his 4/23. PBKS simply didn't have enough runs on the board but things could've been a lot different if Arshdeep Singh hadn't been run out and Odean Smith had played those 10 balls.
