(Cricket news) Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 12 runs which was the latters 5th defeat in their 5th match of the season. Mumbai Indians had won the toss and elected to bowl first as they made one change by bringing in Tymal Mills for Ramandeep Singh while PBKS was unchanged. MI once again left Tim David who they brought for 8.25 Cr on the bench. 

Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan gave PBKS a brilliant start as they added 97 runs in less than 10 overs. Skipper Agarwal scored 52 off 32 balls hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes while Shikhar Dhawan was a bit more conservative with 70 off 50 balls. Dhawan hit 5 boundaries and 3 maximums. Jitesh Sharma and Shahrukh Khan produced some late fireworks to take PBKS to a total of 198/5. Sharma scored 30 off just 15 while Khan scored 15 off 6. Jasprit Bumrah, Murugan Ashwin and Jaydev Unadkat got a scalp each while Basil Thampi picked up 2 wickets. 

199 was definitely a chase-able total on the flat pitch but MI ended up 12 runs short. Dewald Brevis played an excellent knock of 49 off 35 balls as he hit 4 fours and 5 sixes. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played good cameos but no one managed to play the big knock. Varma and Keiron Pollard were both run out at crucial times which changed the game. After a disappointing game against Gujarat Titans, Odean Smith came back as he picked up 4 wickets. Kagiso Rabada picked up 2 wickets while Vaibhav Arora got a scalp. Arshdeep Singh conceded just 28 runs in his 4 overs as he bowled really well in the death overs.

Mumbai's disappointing results are definitely down to their auction blunder. They spent 8.25 Cr on Tim David who isn't being backed by the team as they are playing with only 2 or 3 overseas players. MI may have spent too much money on Ishan Kishan which is the reason that their bowling unit is very weak. They also spent 8 Cr on Jofra Archer who is not going to play a single match this season. The Mumbai Indians will have to do something with what's available and the squad definitely has some wildcards that could be tried out.
