Pat Cummins onslaught leads KKR to victory over MI

(Cricket news) Mumbai Indians were handed a 3rd consecutive defeat by Kolkata Knight Riders who won by 5 wickets and with 4 overs to spare. Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first before announcing 2 changes as Pat Cummins and Rasikh Salam replaced Shivam Mavi and Tim Southee. For MI, Suryakumar Yadav and Dewald Brevis were brought in for Anmolpreet Singh and Tim David.

MI could only manage 161 runs in the 1st innings on what was a very difficult pitch to bat on. Suryakumar Yadav on his return scored 52 off 36 balls while Dewald Brevis on debut played a nice cameo of 29 off 19 balls. Late fireworks by Tilak Varma and Keiron Pollard got Mumbai over the 160 run mark. Umesh Yadav extended his lead in the purple cap race by picking up a wicket. Varun Chakravarthy also got a scalp while Pat Cummins picked up two wickets but was very expensive as he conceded 49 runs.

KKR chased down the total with 4 overs to spare. Venkatesh Iyer got his first half century of the season as he scored an unbeaten 50 off 41 balls. Pat Cummins came into bat at number 7 with KKR in a bit of a pickle. The Australian Test captain smashed 56 off just 15 balls including 4 boundaries and 6 maximus. He equaled the record of fastest IPL fifty and also became only the 2nd player after Chris Gayle to hit 30 runs in an over twice. Daniel Sams was the victim as he conceded 35 runs in the 16th over which turned out to be the last over of the match.
