Ireland’s Inter-Provincial series: PJ Moor to represent Munster Reds; Neil Rock moves to Northern Knights

According to a press release by Cricket Ireland, the Board announced on Monday that Zimbabwean wicketkeeper-batsman Peter “PJ” Moor will play club cricket in Ireland this summer and will represent the Munster Reds interprovincial team for the 2021 season. Meanwhile, Neil Rock will move to fill in for the retired Gary Wilson as the Northern Knights’ wicketkeeper.

Harare-born Moor has previously represented YMCA and CIYMS while playing club cricket in Ireland. The 30 year old who holds an Irish passport has also played for Zimbabwe in eight Tests, 49 ODIs along with 21 T20Is and was member of the Zimbabwean team that played a six-match limited over series against Ireland in 2019.

The move means that Neil Rock, previously confirmed to represent the Munster Reds for this season, can now move north and join forces with the Northern Knights – the side Rock has represented in multiple formats since 2018. Rock will now take the charge as the wicketkeeper replacing Gary Wilson who recently announced his retirement.

Andrew White, Chair of National Men’s Selectors, said: “It goes without saying that PJ Moor’s quality and his broad experience – and time spent previously in Ireland – will be a valuable addition to the Inter-Provincial Series for this season. PJ has performed at the highest levels of the game, and he will offer a great deal to the young Munster squad.”

“This also allows Pebbles [Neil Rock] to return to the Knights and fill the gap left by Gary Wilson’s retirement. This development adds further interest to what is shaping up to be an intriguing inter-provincial series, which will only raise the standards of the competition and should additionally provide some tough, competitive cricket for our elite players ahead of the internationals.”
