India’s policy of constantly resting players is still not stopping injuries

(Cricket news) Recently Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the ongoing South Africa series due to an ankle twist. He was replaced by Washington Sundar. Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel missed the Asia Cup while Bumrah is also set to miss the T20 World Cup. Ravindra Jadeja also got injured during the Asia Cup. All these injuries have happened off the field which is very strange in a way. Ravindra Jadeja was reportedly injured while surfboarding during a team activity in the Asia Cup while Bumrah, Harshal and Chahar were presumably injured in the gym or while training.

India have been resting their players a lot ever since Covid times but that isn't stopping the injuries. Speaking on the matter former Indian player Virender Sehwag said "India's problems have been injuries that didn't happen on the cricket field, No one is addressing that. Hardik Pandya got injured while bowling. Most of the players are getting injured at the gym or outside the match. We didn't see Jadeja getting injured on a cricket field. After the match, we came to know that he has an injury. That means the things that are happening outside or in the gym need to be addressed,"

The BCCI may need to look at the fitness regime of the players as it is happening way too often. There is a lot of cricket being played but the players are getting enough rest. With so much emphasis on fitness these days it could be that the players are over training themselves which leads to injuries. It could also be that with fitness rules being so strict with the Yo-yo tests, players are often ruled out if they're not fully fit. If Jasprit Bumrah can bowl but with a bit of pain then too he is asked by the management to sit out. It is definitely something that needs to be taken into account in the future.
