(Cricket news) Indian women defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets to seal the ODI Series. It has been a very dominant tour for India as they have won the T20I series 2-1 and have won the ODI series with one game left to play. It has been an incredible start to the post-Mithali Raj era as the team looks very well balanced but there is still a long way to go. Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to bowl first before announcing an unchanged XI.
India managed to bowl out Sri Lanka for 173 runs in 50 overs. Ama Kanchana was the highest run scorer with 47 off 83 balls. Nilakshi de Silva, Chamari Athapaththu and Anushka Sanjeewani got decent starts but couldn't score big. Seamer Renuka Thakur was the pick of the bowlers as she picked up 4/28. Renuka has taken the place of Jhulan Goswami and she is doing an impressive job. Meghna Singh and Deepti Sharma picked up 2 wickets each while the other 2 were run-outs. In total India used 7 bowlers which is looking like a long term plan for Harmanpreet who will be keen on using all her bowling options.
India chased down 174 in just 25.4 overs without losing a single wicket. Smriti Mandhana scored 94 off 83 balls while Shafali Verma scored a run a ball 71. The pair played some exquisite strokes in the innings to guide India to victory. Verma hit 4 fours and a six while Mandhana smashed 11 boundaries and a maximum. The opening partnership hadn't been too good for India on this tour but they did come good in time. The pair need to do this more often as their contribution to this team is immense. India will now be hoping to end the tour with a win to whitewash the Lankans which will be a good way to begin the new phase after a rough World Cup campaign in New Zealand.
