Indian women gear up for series opener against understaffed England

(Cricket news) After their silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, the Indian women's team will be back in action. The women in blue will take on England for 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs. This is a very important series for India with next year's T20 World Cup in mind. The first game will be played at the Riverside Ground. India beat England in the Commonwealth Games semi finals, therefore the home side will definitely be looking for revenge. It should be an interesting series as the Indian T20I team looks better than ever but they still have a lot of room for improvement.

India's possible playing XI:

Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, Taniyaa  Bhatia, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, Meghna Singh, Renuka Singh

Bench:

Richa Ghosh, S Meghna, Simran Bahadur, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, K.P Navgire, Dayalan Hemalatha

India is likely to stick with the same playing XI that played in the Commonwealth Games at least for the first game. Navgire is definitely one player to keep an eye on if she does get a chance. India's 3 seamers will have a big role to play in English conditions. It will be outlandish if India go all out with 4 seamers as they have two very good spin bowling all-rounders. Meghna Singh's place in the shortest format has always been questioned and this series will be a very big test for her.

England's possible playing XI:

Danielle Wyatt, Sophia Dunkley, Alice Capsey, Bryony Smith, Amy Jones, Maia Bouchier, Sophie Ecclestone, Sarah Glenn, Kate Cross, Issy Wong, Lauren Bell

Bench:

Lauren Bell, Freya Davies, Freya Kemp, Bryony Smith

England are missing quite a few key players due to various reasons. Anya Shrubsole has retired from international cricket. Captain Heather Knight is yet to recover from her hip injury while her deputy Nat Sciver pulled out of the squad just a couple of days ago to focus on her mental well being. Premium seamer Katherine Brunt has also been given a rest for the entire tour. England still has a pretty good squad but India will not get a better chance to beat England in their own backyard.
