(Cricket news) After the disappointment of the World Cup in New Zealand, Indian women now go on a tour of Sri Lanka. For the first time ever, Harmanpreet Kaur will be the all format captain of the side. Kaur in her press conference said that things will be easier now because earlier she and Mithali Raj had different ideas which made things a little difficult. Now that Mithali Raj has hung up her boots that problem shouldn't exist. Harmanpreet's statement makes perfect sense, MS Dhoni has also said in the past that split captaincy doesn't work in a country like India.
Here's India's ideal playing XI for the T20Is against Sri Lanka
Openers: Smriti Mandhana & Shafali Verma
The pair have been opening for India in all formats for a while now. Verma has had a little bit of a dry patch over the past year or so but the spark is still there. S. Meghna, Yastika Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues are the other options to open but Mandhana and Verma compliment each other really well. India need explosive starts in this format as there is enough depth in their batting. Verma is usually the one to start attacking but Mandhana isn't conservative herself.
Middle order: Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues & Harmanpreet Kaur (c)
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur will definitely play and will be extremely crucial. Her off-spin bowling will also come in handy. The order in which the middle order come out to bat will be interesting to see. Bhatia and Rodrigues are both anchors while Kaur is a power hitter. S. Meghna is another option who is an aggressive run scorer herself. Bhatia being a left hander will be very crucial to get that left and right hand combination going.
Wicket keeper: Richa Ghosh
The young starlet has established herself as the first choice keeper for India in white ball. Her aggressive nature makes her a perfect candidate to play at number 6 or even number 7 if needed. There is no direct replacement for Ghosh but Yastika Bhatia can don the gloves if needed.
All-rounders: Deepti Sharma & Pooja Vastrakar
Deepti Sharma has established herself as one of the most important players in the team. She didn't have a good World Cup campaign but now is the time to bounce back. Vastrakar on the other hand was one of India's best players at the World Cup. Her ability with both bat and ball are going to be very crucial for India in the coming years. Sneh Rana who is the other all-rounder in the mix has been rested for the series.
Seamer: Meghna Singh
Meghna Singh has given a few good performances for India in the past. She still has a lot to improve and her death bowling is one of those things. Simran Bahadur and Renuka Singh are the other seam bowling options. In Sri Lankan conditions, going with 2 seamers and 3 spinners would be the best option.
Spinners: Rajeshwari Gayakwad & Poonam Yadav
These two are the two most experienced spinners in the side. The absence of Sneh Rana gives them an opportunity to show what their ability is. Gayakwad has been the lead spinner of this side for the past two years and she will be one of the first names on the team sheet. Yadav on the other hand is struggling to get some consistency and this is her opportunity. Radha Yadav is the alternative unless Ramesh Powar and Harmanpreet Kaur decide to go with a 3rd seamer.
Bench: S Meghna, Simran Bahadur, Renuka Singh & Radha Yadav
