Australia seeking 10th consecutive T20 victory over Sri lanka

(Cricket news) The Sri Lanka tour of Australia has so far been a huge success for the hosts as the visitors have been winless in the T20 series. The fifth and final T20 will be played on February 20 as the Lankans are desperately looking for a victory and end the series on a winning note.

For Australia, everything has gone right in the last four matches. Josh Inglis has had a sparkling debut for the team with 132 runs in 4 matches and is the second leading runs scorer behind Pathum Nissanka. Glenn Maxwell has been in form in the last two matches and needs 5 more runs to become the second batter from Australia after David Warner to score more than 400 runs against Sri Lanka in T20s. The right hand batter has been dismissed twice by Maheesh Theekshana and once by Wanindu Hasaranga in the series depicting his weakness in tackling spinners. Ben McDermott has been the only one from the side to score a half century as the series has been a low scoring contest. Captain Aaron Finch has not yet scored a big one as the power hitter demoted himself to number 3 in the previous match.

Adam Zampa has been leading the spin attack while Kane Richardson and Josh Hazlewood have been the top wicket takers. Hazlewood took 4 for 12 in the first match and took 3 more in the next one for 22 runs. Ashton Agar only conceded 28 runs in the last two matches while taking 2 wickets, Mitchell Starc has not been able to deliver while Pat Cummins has also struggled to strike.

Australia needs one more victory to complete a whitewash in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. The hosts are on a 9 match winning streak against the visitors which started in 2017, the last time Lankans beat Australia was on this day 5 years back at Geelong.

Sri Lanka had a 5 match winning streak from 2010 to 2013 which included victories at Sydney and Melbourne. They must bring back the form to end the series with at least one win and hope Melbourne ends their luck in the format. Pathum Nissanka has been the only player from the side to make a notefull contribution as he is the leading run scorer with 171 runs and scored 73 in the second match which has been the highest score of the series. No batter from the side other than the opener has scored 100 runs on tour, runs have not come by much so far and their fate will be the same if they fail to put up a decent score in the final.

Theekshana, Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera have taken 5 wickets each. Chameera has been the top pace bowler for the side in terms of wickets and runs. While Theekshana was expensive in the first two matches, he has brought down the economy by a huge margin in the last two matches. The side will be under pressure but make sure their batters light the fireworks as the bowlers have been guarding the team so far.
