Real Madrid will host Atletico Madrid in the Copa Del Rey Quarter finals while Barcelona will take on Real Sociedad

(Football news) Real Madrid on Thursday came back from 2-0 down against Villarreal in spectacular fashion to win 3-2. The comeback win came after a run of disappointing performances and it could turn things around for Carlo Ancelotti. Now they have drawn city rivals Atletico Madrid in the quarter finals. Madrid derbies in the Copa Del Rey have always produced incredible matches. Out of the last 4 matches between the rivals in the Copa Del Rey, each team has won two. The match will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu which will make it the first Copa Del Rey match to be played in the iconic stadium since 2020.

Real Madrid haven’t won the Copa Del Rey since 2014 and the club will be very keen on winning the competition again. This season has been very underwhelming so far for the Rojiblancos but Copa Del Rey could be their saving grace. There are various reports which claim that this could be Diego Simeone’s last season incharge of Atletico Madrid. A Copa Del Rey win would be a perfect way to give the Rojiblancos legend a send off.

Barcelona ran through 3rd division side AD Ceuta FC as they defeated them 5-0. Now they face a tough challenge against Real Sociedad. Despite being knocked out of the Champions League in the group stage, the Blaugrana are having a good campaign so far. The Spanish Super Cup win in Saudi Arabia will definitely be a massive boost for them. La Real themselves are having a good season as they are 3rd on the La Liga table. They also finished top of their Europa League group ahead of Manchester United. Sociedad will have a very difficult job to keep hold of Barcelona especially because the match is at Camp Nou.
