South African pacer Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the two-test match series against West Indies next month. The pacer was featuring in the Major League Cricket 2024 lately where he was a part of the Texas Super Kings. He suffered a low-grade side strain on his left side during the tournament.
Coetzee was called back home and underwent further scans and medical assessments. On further investigation and reports the Proteas Medical team has now declared him unfit for the 2 tests against the Caribbean nation. He would now undergo a period of rest and recovery under Cricket South Africa (CSA).
Uncapped fast bowler Migael Pretorius has been named as Coetzee’s replacement. Pretorious has been a part of the Proteas squad earlier as well but failed to make it to the eleven. He was called in 2020 for the Sri Lanka series but did not get a game, unfortunately. He has picked up 23 wickets so far in eight games in the ongoing County Championship Division in England and would be raring to have a go with the ball in hand for his nation.
South Africa will tour the Caribbean, where the first test will be played at Port Of Spain, Trinidad from the 7th of August which be followed by a game in Guyana from the 15th of August. All the games will be crucial with WTC points at stake.
