(Cricket news) Chris Gayle has been described as the most attacking batsman ever in the game of cricket. The left hander turned 42 four days ago and still poses enough danger to the current generation of bowlers. He started his IPL career in 2009 and is currently playing for Punjab Kings while having played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the earlier seasons. He is back from lifting the title in CPL as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots defeated Saint Lucia Kings in the final.
Gayle needs fifty more runs to become the third overseas player and seventh overall to score 5000 runs or more in IPL. He will look to achieve the milestone and might as well try to go past Ab De Villers who has 5068 runs to his name. Gayle only played seven matches last year but had scored three half centuries which included a 99 and had had an average of 40.14 in the end. Though he is the oldest in the team, he is still the best when it comes to clearing the ball out of the ground and has played over 446 T20 matches for fifteen plus teams in his career making one of the most experienced in the format behind Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard.
Gayle has played over 140 matches in the Indian Premier League while scoring 4950 runs and taking 18 wickets. He has the highest score of 175 not out, record 6 centuries, 357 sixes which is the most and was the the first player to score more than 700 runs in a single season at the league. He is undoubtedly the greatest T20 player and will be a major weapon for the West Indies team at the T20 World Cup. He is the leading run scorer for his country who is only 150 runs short of the 2000 run mark in T20 and has the most sixes with 121 maximums in 74 matches.
Gayle also known as the Universal boss which is his bat sticker is yet to play in the second phase of the league and last played in May against Delhi Capitals. He has so far scored 178 runs in 8 matches this year and might be included in today’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. His attacking style has proven fruitful for the team and needs to be at his best to push Punjab Kings in the top four of the table.
Gayle has played over 16 T20 matches this year and is the fourth highest run getter with 227 runs. Retirement is not a question but having played cricket over the past 22 years he will be looking to secure a third title for his country and showed wild emotions as they won the Cup last time. He is already a legend in the game and has put his power in the right place, Gayle last scored a century in IPL three years ago and the spectators will be needing a treat in UAE as the Gayle storm does not give any warnings before unleashing itself.
