Chelsea take on Arsenal in blockbuster clash between London rivals

(Football news) The stage is set at Stamford Bridge for a mouthwatering London derby as Chelsea take on Arsenal on Sunday. Both teams are coming off the back of wins with the Blues overcoming Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 in the Champions League while Arsenal progressed into the knockout stage of the Europa League. In their last Premier League match, Chelsea succumbed to a 4-1 humiliation to Graham Potter’s former side Brighton and the Blues will be looking to make amends against an extremely formidable opponent who are also league leaders.

Despite the defeat, Potter’s side have suffered just one defeat in 11 games but are currently sixth, having been overtaken by Manchester United after last week’s result. Nothing but a victory will be enough for the Blues if they are to remain in contention for a Champions League place next season and will take solace in the fact that they are unbeaten in front of their home fans in 12 games. However, to say that Arsenal have been in sensational form is an understatement and will head into the fixture with supreme confidence as the Gunners are the most recent team to have defeated Chelsea at home in recent memory, winning two games at Stamford Bridge in the last two seasons.

In team news, the likes of Wesley Fofana, Reece James, N’Golo Kante, Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell are unavailable for selection for Chelsea while Kepa Arrizabalaga is also out of contention which means Edouard Mendy will feature in goal. Mateo Kovacic is also expected to feature in the starting lineup, having recovered from the tight calf. As for Arsenal, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Emile Smith Rowe and Matt Turner are unavailable for selection. However, Bukayo Saka has recovered from his minor knock and should start the match while Oleksandr Zinchenko has also recovered from a calf injury. Despite Chelsea’s stellar record at Stamford Bridge, in-form Arsenal should secure a narrow victory from this fixture.
