(Football news) Chelsea FC have reached an agreement with Aston Villa for the transfer of 18 year old Carney Chukwuemeka for a fee of £20m. The midfielder was left out of Villa’s pre-season tour after refusing to sign a new contract and a transfer seems to be the sensible option for the club, especially considering that his contract is expiring next year. Chukwuemeka made 12 Premier League appearances last season and represented England in their Under-19 European Championship victory last month.
When the transfer is announced officially, Chukwuemeka will become Chelsea’s third signing of the summer under the new regime. The player was linked with the likes of FC Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund but chose to go to Stamford Bridge in what is undoubtedly a big coup for Chelsea. Chukwuemeka is regarded as one of Premier League’s brightest prospects and the 18 year old has been given permission to travel to London in order to discuss his personal terms and undergo a medical.
In a brief statement, Chelsea FC said “Aston Villa and Chelsea can confirm that the clubs have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka. The 18-year-old has been given permission to travel to London to discuss both personal terms and undergo a medical." Chukwuemeka is expected to undergo a medical today after which he will become Chelsea’s third summer signing after Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly. According to multiple reports, the deal is structured for £15m with add-ons potentially rising up to £20m depending on the player's performance.
