Chelsea look to go through as Juve hope to carry on their good form

(Football news) Chelsea have a healthy advantage going into the second leg against Lille as the Blues claimed a 2-0 lead in the first leg at Stamford Bridge and will once again aim to do the talking on the pitch amid the unprecedented circumstances they are in. In the first leg Kai Havertz scored after just eight minutes courtesy of a bullet header before Christian Pulisic slotted home with 63 minutes on the clock to cap off a very professional performance. Amid the whole Roman Abramovich drama Chelsea are performing really well on the field having narrowly beaten Newcastle over the weekend, confidence will be high and we expect a straight forward victory from them.

For Lille their only previous appearance in the last-16 also ended in defeat at the hands of Manchester United back in 2007 but heading into the match, the defending Ligue 1 champions have lost just one of their last 17 at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in all competition. This season Lille have been a tough nut to crack domestically in recent weeks as they collected their fifth Ligue 1 clean sheet on the bounce against Saint-Etienne, but too many draws are hampering their season's progress.

For Chelsea,  Ben Chilwell remains absent for the long-term, but Tuchel expects Cesar Azpilicueta to back from illness. Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi on the other hand are extremely unlikely to feature in the match day squad. For Lille, Renato Sanches picked up an injury against Saint Etienne and will most likely miss this match, but otherwise Gourvennec will be working with a fully-fit squad.

Juventus will hope that they can replicate their domestic form in the Champions League when they face Villareal after a disappointing 1-1 draw in the first leg. The Bianconeri head into the second leg having won 3-1 in Serie A against Sampdoria, while Unai Emery's side scraped past Celta Vigo 1-0 in La Liga. The Scudetto chasers are now unbeaten in 12 games across all competitions since their Super Cup defeat against Inter Milan. Juventus has suffered last-16 exits in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 of the Champions League and have not progressed further than the quarter-finals since losing to Real Madrid in the 2017 final , but a golden opportunity is there for the taking to make the last eight.

Villarreal will travel to Turin as the massive underdogs to advance to the quarter-finals  after failing to take full advantage of Juve's injury woes in the first leg.The Yellow Submarine have been a hit-and-miss since the 1-1 draw to Juventus, thrashing Espanyol 5-1, then going down 1-0 to Osasuna and scraping past Celta Vigo this weekend courtesy of a  second-half Parejo effort. Only twice before Villarreal has managed to make it to the quarter-finals in the Champions League, most recently in 2008-09 before being dispatched by Arsenal.

For Juventus, Denis Zakaria picked up a muscle injury in the first leg and will not make the squad, as Weston McKennie and Federico Chiesa out for the long-term along with the likes of Alex Sandro and Leonardo Bonucci will both be absent with minor knocks. For Villareal, experienced centre-back Raul Albiol had to be taken off at half time against Celta Vigo due to hamstring discomfort and miss out this crucial encounter but injury list for Emery keeps getting longer as Ruben Pena, Paco Alcacer and Alberto Moreno are definite absentees. The Spanish side are also sweating over the fitnesses of Gerard Moreno, Etienne Capoue and Juan Foyth ahead of Wednesday's game,
