(Football news) Struggling Chelsea are in desperate need for a new manager and have begun the process to hire an elite coach after holding talks with Julian Nagelsmann. The German was sacked by Bayern Munich in March after less than two years in charge despite leading them to the Bundesliga title last year. Reports suggest that the Chelsea hierarchy don’t have a preferred option to replace Graham Potter yet.
Potter was in-charge of Chelsea for seven months after leaving Brighton following Thomas Tuchel’s departure. The English manager couldn’t produce satisfactory results which led to the club languishing in the bottom half of the table. Nagelsmann is widely considered to be one of the best young coaches in the game but the manager has also been linked to Tottenham Hotspur. The German has previously worked with Laurence Stewart and technical director Christopher Vivell during his time at RB Leipzig.
Nagelsmann began his managerial career at the age of just 28, taking over at Hoffenheim before moving to RB Leipzig where he reached the Champions League semi-finals. He then joined Bayern Munich in 2021, winning the Bundesliga along with two German Supercups in his first season. The German champions replaced Nagelsmann with Thomas Tuchel and are now trying to appoint Chelsea’s first team coach Anthony Barry.
