(Football news) Cesar Azpilicueta’s future is soon going to be clarified this week, as his long-rumored move to Barcelona might just take place. As per various reports in Spain, Chelsea’s new owners have decided to honor the promise of the previous owners to the club captain about letting him go to the Catalan giants. There will still be a nominal fee of probably around €3m, he has agreed personal terms, where Barca are said to be offering two years with an option for a third for the player who is turning 33 this summer. Chelsea are also in talks with Barca are in talks with Marcos Alonso, Frenkie De Jong and maybe even Sergiño Dest but these potential deals are expected to stay separate in terms of finances and bookkeeping for Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid have reportedly jumped into the battle for Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spanish defender is eager to return home this summer and has been in talks with Barcelona since January. The Blues legend finished his tenth season at the club and has made 476 appearances in all competitions with 17 goals and 56 assists to his name. His contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire this summer but after playing a certain number of games last season, an extra year in his contract was triggered. Since January there has been heavy speculation over a potential move to Barcelona in the summer. A move to the Camp Nou would see him link up with former teammate Andreas Christensen, who recently completed his transfer after his contract expired
Barcelona boss Xavi is a massive admirer of the Spanish international and wants him at the club next season but it is thought that Boehly doesn’t want the 32-year-old to leave, so Azpilicueta will have to force a departure from the Blues. Thomas Tuchel also wants to keep him at the club and if Azpilicueta is denied the chance to leave the club then he could consider a contract renewal at Stamford Bridge. A move to Barcelona would spell the end of an era at Chelsea, with the full-back playing a key part in the club’s successes over the last ten years. It would also mean that Tuchel’s side lose their third defender of the summer, with Christensen joining Barcelona and Antonio Rudiger signing for Real Madrid.
However it is looking increasingly likely that Chelsea will not only see their club captain depart but also lose Alonso this summer as he is said to be close to a move to the Camp Nou. Barcelona are hoping to complete the signing of the 31-year-old defender in the coming week, with both clubs coming close to an agreement and Tuchel has allowed the player to leave Stamford Bridge. The only obstacle at the moment is the fee as Chelsea want more than €10 million for their left wing-back, but Barca believe that there is room for them to negotiate amid their financial crisis.
However, Okdiario's chief pundit Eduardo Inda has revealed Atletico's interest on El Chiringuito "Atlético wants a wing-back and he is my countryman, César Azpilicueta, from Chelsea. The problem that Atlético has is that Barça wants the player and Chelsea is willing to sell him and Marcos Alonso as well, but it would be in exchange for Frenkie de Jong. They are two players with an age. There would be financial compensation to Barça."
