(Football news) Carlo Ancelotti bagged the UEFA Men's Coach of the year award last night. The Italian manager edged Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp to win the prestigious award for the first time in his career. Ancelotti has been a top manager for over 27 years now but last season was something special. Under Ancelotti, Real Madrid won the La Liga and the UEFA Champions League. The manner in which Los Blancos won the Champions League is what makes it one of the best runs in the history of the competition. The win was Ancelotti's 4th UCL triumph which made him the manager to win it most times. In the league, Real Madrid were solid throughout the campaign and they never looked like slipping right from the beginning.

Carlo Ancelotti had managed teams like Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich but his career had slowed down with underwhelming periods at Napoli and Everton. Last summer, Zinedine Zidane had left Real Madrid and the Spanish club were without a manager. Florentino Perez had agreed a deal with Massimiliano Allegri but the coach backed out. Carlo Ancelotti who was the manager of Everton back then called the club to ask if he could have Luka Jovic on loan but the club instead asked him if he would return as their manager. Ancelotti accepted the deal and the rest is history. In his first spell at Real Madrid, Ancelotti won the Copa del Rey and also ended Real Madrid's 12 year wait for a Champions League trophy. The Italian did that in his first season in charge and did the same in his second spell last season as well.

Talking about his triumph Ancelotti said "The passion I have for the sport and the quality of the players. Last season there was a fantastic connection between the veterans and young ones, there was fantastic chemistry with the supporters that helped us reach an unbelievable achievement." Ancelotti is known for keeping things simple which works really well for him and his team. The manager has already said that he intends to retire after his spell in Madrid comes to an end but if Real Madrid wants to keep him for another 10 years then he will be happy to do so.
