Carlo Ancelotti becomes the manager with the most UCL wins

(Football news) Real Madrid last night got an emphatic 5-1 win against Celtic at the Santiago Bernabeu. The win meant that Los Blancos finished first on the table ahead of RB Leipzig. The win was Carlo Ancelotti's 103rd in the UEFA Champions League which makes him the manager with the most wins in the competition ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson. The Italian manager last season became the first and only manager to win the UCL. The 103 victories includes the 2004/05 Milan derby which actually ended in a draw but UEFA awarded the win to AC Milan as Inter Milan fans threw fireworks on the field which resulted in the game being stopped. It could be argued that Ancelotti has just equalled Ferguson but the Italian has plenty of time to win more matches.

Ancelotti has established himself as one of the greatest managers of all time and he needed a 2nd spell at Real Madrid to do so. After underwhelming spells with Bayern Munich and Napoli, Ancelotti was managing Everton. He was doing well at Merseyside but for a manager of his caliber, it was definitely a step down. Real Madrid were in a dire situation after Zinedine Zidane left as a couple of managers had rejected an opportunity to coach them. Carlo Ancelotti called Real Madrid to ask for the availability of Luka Jovic on loan to Everton but the club instead asked him if he would be willing to come back as the manager. The Italian agreed and reunited with his old club where he delivered the much awaited 10th UCL trophy.

Experts and fans questioned the decision and called it a step backwards to appoint a manager 'way past his prime'. Within a year Carlo Ancelotti has proved everyone wrong by winning the La Liga, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup. Now he has an even better squad to work with and they are doing really well so far this season. Ancelotti has already said that he will not take any more managerial roles after Real Madrid but he will stay with the Merengues for as long as the club wants. He also said that he could take a job with a national team which will be very interesting to see. Judging by the way Real Madrid are playing, Carlo Ancelotti is not going anywhere anytime soon.
