(Badminton news) The BWF Canada Open 2024 – Round of 16 will take place tonight, at the Markin MacPhail Centre, Calgary, Canada. The Super 500 tournament will have multiple Indian shuttlers in action across categories in the Round of 16, with the event available exclusively on JioCinema and Sports18.
In women’s singles, two Indian shuttlers remain. Tanya Hemanth defeated Canada’s Jackie Dent (21-13, 20-22, 21-14) to book a berth in the Round of 16 against Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand. Anupama Upadhyaya beat Ireland’s Rachael Darragh (21-11, 21-11) and will face Michelle Li (Canada) in the next round.
The women’s doubles duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand got a first-round bye and will play their first match of the tournament in the Round of 16 against Natasja P. Anthonisen (Denmark) and Alyssa Tirtosentono (Netherlands)
In men’s singles, Priyanshu Rajawat overcame Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke (17-21, 21-16, 21-14), to advance to the Round of 16 where he will face Takuma Obayashi (Japan).
Krishna Prasad Garaga and K Sai Pratheek will be in action in men’s doubles after defeating England’s Larry Pong and Canada’s Lap Kan Kern Pong (21-19, 21-11) in the first-round. They will face Su Ching-Heng and Lin Bing-Wei (Chinese Taipei) for a spot in the quarter-finals.
Mixed doubles duo Rohan Kapoor and Gadde Ruthvika Shivani defeated compatriots Tarun Kona and Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli (21-9, 21-9) in the first round. They will face Chen Cheng Kuan and Hsu Yin-Hui (Chinese Taipei) in the Round of 16.
