Bundesliga: Bayern remain on top as Dortmund continue to maintain pressure on them, Freiburg leapfrog Leverkusen to third

(Football news) Bayern remained on top of the league as they produced a dominant display over Hoffenheim as Dortmund maintained pressure on Bayern by winning their match against Arminia as they brushed off their heavy defeat against Ajax. Freiburg moved up to third as Leverkusen dropped points to Koln.

Bayern breezed past Hoffenheim with 4-0 victory over them as Nagelsmann was sidelined due to having Covid 19. In the first half it was classic Bayern as Serge Gnabry opened the scoring in the 16th minute when teen sensation Jamal Musiala played the ball to him who fires it past his legs, Lewandowski then went onto to score his 10th goal of the season after he brilliantly finished it from the edge of the box. The story of the second half was pretty similar as Bayern were dominating throughout the game but in the dying stages, substitutes Eric Choupo Moting and Kingsley Coman, who returned from a heart surgery completed the rout for Bayern. With this result Bayern have 22 points and lead Dortmund by only a point in the table.

“It was a deserved victory. The team played very strong football for 30 minutes, After going 2-0 up, there was a lack of sharpness in defence. In the end, we stepped up a gear. We’ll all be happy if Julian comes back as soon as possible." said Nagelsmann’s assistant coach Dino Toppmoeller.

Dortmund ease past Arminia as they won 3-1, Marco Rose’s side went into the match without Erling Haaland as he was sidelined with a hip injury. In the first half Dortmund were the dominant as they created chance but their pressure finally paid off when Malen was brought down in the penalty box, with Haaland out Emre Can coolly converted the penalty to give them a much deserved lead, just before half time Mat Hummels produced a spectacular volley from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. In the second half the story of the match was the same as Jude Bellingham showed the world why he's one of the most highly rated teenagers when he produced a brilliant solo effort to put the icing on the cake on a brilliant performance by them. Although Arminia grabbed a late consolation goal it moved Dortmund to 21 points from 8 matches.

“We wanted to give an answer here to the game on Tuesday, which was unfortunately, a step backwards," admitted Hummels

RB Leipzig won against newly promoted side Fruth 4-1 in what was a much needed victory for Jesse Marsch’s side after a disappointing loss to PSG midweek. Second half goals from Emil Forsberg, Yussuf Poulsen, Dominik Szoboszlai and debuten Hugo Novoa Ramos helped claim all three points. Freiburg remained the only unbeaten team in Germany’s top flight as they won 2-0 against Wolfsburg, thanks to goals from Lucas Hoeler and Philipp Lienhart as Wolfsburg suffered their 4 successive loss which has indirectly led to the board sacking Marco Van Bommel.
