(Football news) Bayern left it late to win 2-1 against Mainz as Julian Nagelsmann won his 100th Bundesliga game as a coach and at 34 years, he is the youngest coach to reach that mark. In the first half Mainz scored against the run of play with Karim Onisiwo heading in after 22 minutes as they did brilliantly to keep the lead till half time. In the second half Kingsely Coman controlled a deep Corentin Tolisso cross with a brilliant first touch and slotted in through the legs of Zentner to level in the 53rd minute, Bayern started to assert their dominance as Jamal Muisala slotted in a clever shot in the 74th minute to secure all three points for Bayern. With this result Bayern have 37 points and are almost guaranteed to be top of the table going into the three-week winter break after next weekend.
"We made our own life difficult in the first half. There are always games like that and Mainz are a top team, the way they are playing these days. They had prepared really well for the game and you could see that they were prepared for our twists and transitions. They were aggressive." said Bayern's Thomas Muller.
Dortmund fell further behind in the title as they drew 1-1 against VFL Bochum. In the first Bochum scored first as Polter took a well-taken penalty after Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel had brought down Christopher Antwi-Adjei in the box. Bochum were desperately hanging onto their slim lead but Dortmund by the 85th minute had fired 21 shots on goal compared to Bochum three on goal. Dortmund's pressure was finally rewarded with their 22nd shot on goal whenHaaland fed Julian Brandt who scored from a tight angle to level things up.With this result Dortmund are now 6 points behind Bayern and will need a monumental effort to dethrone the champions.
"We had enough good chances to win this game, But if you don't use them then at the end of the match you only have a point. Not scoring was not just bad luck. You have to want to score and we had enough chances but we were not precise enough," scorer Brandt said
RB Leipzig won their first under Domenico Tedesco 4-1 against Monchengladbach as goals from Gvardiol, Andre Silva, Nkunku and Henrichs sealed an emphatic win for them. Domencio Tedesco’s era as coach couldn’t be more perfect, his side dominated from the get go and mainly he brought that swagger that the previous Leipzig teams used to have. With this loss Adi Hutter’s job is under serious threat as they have conceded 14 goals in the last three Bundesliga matches.
