Brazil rout past Uruguay to virtually confirm their position in next years World Cup as Argentina narrowly win against Peru

(Football news) Brazil almost made sure that they will qualify for Qatar next year as they brushed past Uruguay quite comprehensively, Argentina to consolidate their second position in table after they narrowly beat the spirited Peruvians. Chile on the other hand have finally won two matches in a row and are making a late push towards the last qualification position.

Brazil won 4-1 against Uruguay, in what was a one sided match as Brazil dominated from the get go. In the first half Brazil took the lead through Neymar within the first 10 minutes after he coolly finished Fred’s excellent pass, after 8 minutes Brazil doubled their advantage as Raphinha scored his first goal for Brazil. In the second half the dominance continued as Raphinha went to score one more after a through ball from Neymar and finally Gabriel Barbosa put the final nail in the coffin, although Suarez pulled a goal back through a free kick it wasn’t enough. With this victory Brazil have 31 points and sit comfortably in 1st as they are 6 points ahead of Argentina.

Brazil’s coach Tite after Raphinha’s man of the match performance said: "I publicly thank Bielsa for accompanying and working with Raphinha and all the coaching staff that brought him closer to the national team. I spoke personally with Bielsa, and I thank him for that support. We continue calmly. It's a process. We have the observation of a great performance. but after a while, we're left thinking it's the peak of the mountain [for Raphinha]. It's going to fluctuate, because it's normal, because he's a kid, because a whole atmosphere was generated. He played a great game, but we have to have common sense and serenity at the time of evaluations. You have to play a lot at your club. The competition increases, the batten [of pressure] increases, the level increases and all of the athletes compete to be in the national team."

Argentina had to dig deep to win their match against Peru 1-0, Scaloni’s side were expected to dominate the match but Peru showed a lot of courage and determination and at least deserved a draw for their efforts. In the first half Peru almost took the lead from a long range shot from Christian Cueva who brought out a good save from the goalkeeper, but just before the half time Lautaro Martinez broke the deadlock with a brilliant flick header from Monlina’s cross. The story of the second half was completely different as Argentina were on the backfoot and conceded a penalty in the 65 minute, the penalty was missed by Yotun as Argentina held on for three valuable points. With this result Argentina are on 25 points 8 points ahead of Ecuador in third.

Messi posted on Instagram: "Difficult match, difficult to play. A lot of wind, they were playing deep, leaving little space for us. The referee always does this when he referees us, as if he does it on purpose. But well, three important points and we're close to our objective."
