(Football news) Borussia Dortmund have reportedly made Sebastien Haller their top target to replace Erling Haaland, and they are ready to pay a transfer fee of €33 million plus bonuses to sign the in-form Ajax striker. There has been plenty of inquest at Dortmund regarding their search for a new striker in recent weeks. The Black and Yellows have decided to move for Sebastien Haller and the striker is also keen to join the club.
Dortmund are only willing to pay €33 million plus bonuses for the 27 year old, while Ajax want a transfer fee of €38 million up front plus bonuses. On the other hand, Dortmund's current offer is not very far from Ajax’s demands. Haller is coming off an impressive season with Ajax as he scored 34 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions, including 11 goals in just eight UEFA Champions League games. The former Eintracht Frankfurt striker has turned down more lucrative offers from the English Premier League to make his return to the Bundesliga and help Dortmund win their first Bundesliga title since 2012.
Borussia Dortmund have long held a long term interest in Haller, and they believe that he would be the ideal replacement for Erling Haaland who left the club after two successful years. According to reports, Sasa Kalajdzic of Stuttgart is another player Dortmund is interested in and could be a plan B if a move for Haller does not work out. Lucas Alario is another option and would consider him as a short-term fix. Dortmund saw Erling Haaland leave the club this summer after he signed for Premier League champions Manchester City. The move wasn’t a surprise, as Haaland was expected to leave the German side this transfer window, but now the team is trying to pin down a suitable replacement for the Norwegian goal scoring machine and hopefully make the same impact as Haaland had at the club
In 2021-22, Haller scored 21 goals and added 7 assists in the Eredivisie but he got true recognition with his true heroics at the UEFA Champions League where he scored 11 goals in 8 matches in what was an incredible personal run from the Ivory Coast international. Dortmund was clearly impressed with his showing in the Champions League last year, enough to see him as a suitable replacement for Haaland. Haller is predominantly an ideal target man in the air, along with being good in the air he shows incredible pace for a big man, something that Dortmund are familiar with as Haaland played in a similar manner. If Haller joins Dortmund then he will be their 4th signing after Nikals Sule, Nico Schlotterback and Karim Adeyemi.
