(Football News) Following his acquittal of rape charges, former Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy has secured a two-year deal with Ligue 1 club Lorient.

Benjamin Mendy faced one count of rape and one count of attempted rape in court, both of which resulted in a not guilty verdict on Friday.

Earlier in January, Benjamin Mendy was also found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Benjamin Mendy’s last match for Manchester City was against Tottenham Hotspur in August 2021. However, the Premier League club suspended him later that month when he was arrested. Eventually, City released him after his contract expired last month.

Lorient confirmed that Mendy successfully underwent a medical examination and will be wearing the number five shirt. He is set to make his debut appearance at the club’s training ground later on Wednesday.

Back in 2017, Mendy became the Premier League’s most expensive defender when he made the move from Monaco to Manchester City for a fee of 52 million pounds ($67.28 million).

During his time at Manchester City, he achieved three league titles, and he was also part of France’s victorious 2018 World Cup squad, despite not playing in the final match.

As for Lorient, the club concluded the last season in the 10th position in the league standings.

U.S. businessman Bill Foley, the owner of Premier League club Bournemouth, holds a substantial stake in the Brittany-based team. The two clubs have a friendly match scheduled to take place in England on August 5th.
