(Football news) After finishing 3rd in the last World Cup, Belgium are one of the favorites in this edition. They will start their campaign with the game against Canada while they also have Morocco and Croatia in their group. This is possibly the last World Cup for Belgium's golden generation and there are a lot of expectations from them. Canada has qualified for the FIFA World Cup for just just the 2nd time with the first one being in 1986 where they failed to win a single match and went goalless in the tournament. This time around they have a decent squad who are capable of pulling off an upset.
Belgium coach Roberto Martinez has already come out and said that Thibaut Courtois, Jan Vertonghen, Axel Witsel, Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard will all be starting. He also said that Hazard will captain the side which is a little surprising considering how little game time the forward has had with Real Madrid this season. Kevin De Bruyne is definitely the most important Belgium player who is expected to pull the strings in midfield. Leandro Trossard has been in incredible form with Brighton this season but it is unlikely that he starts.
Romelu Lukaku is out of contention due to an injury but he is likely to be back for the 2nd match. As for Canada all eyes will be on Bayern Munich star Alfonso Davies. It will be interesting to see how Canda plans to deal with the threat of De Bruyne. It is pretty clear that Belgium are likely to have the majority of the ball so Canada will have to be efficient in front of goal. Lille striker Jonathan David has been in great form this season. David has already scored 9 goals in the Ligue 1 this season.
