Before the young boys clash, Frenkie de Jong is scheduled to receive a medical clearance.

Midfielder and third captain Frenkie de Jong is set to make his eagerly awaited comeback after a protracted five-month injury layoff, which is a huge boost for FC.

The gifted 27-year-old hasn’t played since April due to an ankle injury he suffered during a tough match against Real Madrid.

The Dutch international chose not to have surgery and has been assiduously completing his rehabilitation. Last week, he returned to training, which was enthusiastically received by both teammates and supporters.

Even if it was hoped that De Jong would play this past week against Getafe or Osasuna, such plans did not turn out as planned.

Now, noted writer Xavi Campos reports that De Jong will get the all clear from the medical staff on Monday, which is tomorrow.

This means that when manager Hansi Flick gets his team ready for the UEFA Champions League match against the Young Boys on Tuesday night, the midfield dynamo will be available.

Due to the squad’s numerous injuries, Barça’s midfield has been severely constrained. His comeback is therefore vital.

De Jong might not instantly crack the starting lineup, but his presence will give Flick more leeway in deciding how much time to devote to other important players like Pedri and Marc Casado.

De Jong spoke candidly with the club’s media earlier today during a lengthy interview in which he discussed his decision to forego surgery, his progress toward recuperation, and even his pay status.

“It has been a tough process; the ankle is delicate, but I am improving and am close to returning,” he said.

He went on to say: “Each day when I wake up, I check my ankle, continuously aware of its condition; mentally, it’s been a challenging journey because football means everything to me.”

“I’m starting to regain my confidence in striking the ball and competing in duels—I’m not far from being back with the team.”

Thanks to this positive development, it seems that supporters may anticipate seeing De Jong play again as soon as Tuesday when Barça plays Young Boys at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
