(Cricket News) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the Indian squads for their upcoming tour to South Africa on Thursday. The team will play two Tests, three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and one white-ball leg of the tour.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have both been given a break from the white-ball leg of the tour; Rohit will continue to lead the Test series, and Kohli will make his first appearance in international cricket following the World Cup during the Tests. KL Rahul has been named the captain of the ODIs, while Suryakumar Yadav will captain the T20Is. The three-match T20I series is set to begin on December 10.

The team was unveiled following a meeting between BCCI chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar, head coach Rahul Dravid, and other board members on Thursday in New Delhi. During the meeting, Agarkar reviewed India’s performance in the World Cup and Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj—three cricketers who were not included in the current five-match series against Australia—returned for the Twenty20 International series.

Previous reports suggested that the 35-year-old Kohli had asked for a break from white-ball formats. The Indian batsman was named World Cup player of the tournament after scoring 765 runs in 11 matches, shattering Sachin Tendulkar’s legendary record for most ODI centuries in the semi-final match against New Zealand by smashing his 50th century in Mumbai.
