Bayern face their arch nemesis Monchengladbach while Dortmund look to close the gap

Dortmund look to close the gap to Bayern while the Bavarian giants look to maintain their one point lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings
Bayern take on a spirited Gladbach side

(Football news) Bayern Munich are aiming to ensure that they will remain top of the Bundesliga by beating Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday. The hosts must avoid defeat if they are to move back into the top half of the table. Bayern drew each of their three league games after their return to action after the World Cup but since then they have won four successive games in all competitions. League victories against Wolfsburg and VfL Bochum have ensured that Union Berlin and Borussia Dortmund remain one and three points behind them.

The France winger Coman has been in expectational form as his 53rd-minute strike was enough to earn his side a crucial 1-0 win away to Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. PSG must be dreading coming up against him once again in three weeks’ time as the Bavarians remain on course for a treble having booked their place in the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal also. Julian Nagelsmann will be hoping to secure a comfortable win against Gladbach on Saturday before facing a potential title decider against Union Berlin eight days later.

Borussia Monchengladbach possible starting lineup:

Omlin; Scally, Itakura, Elvedi, Bensebaini; Weigl, Kone; Hofmann, Kramer, Plea; Thuram

Bayern Munich possible starting lineup:

Sommer; Cancelo, Upamecano, De Ligt, Davies; Kimmich, Goretzka; Sane, Müller, Gnabry; Choupo-Moting

Borussia Dortmund will aim to get their sixth successive Bundesliga victory when they face Hertha Berlin at the Signal Iduna Park on Sunday. Hertha subsequently ended a four-game losing run with a much-needed win over Monchengladbach last weekend but they still occupy the dreaded relegation playoff spot. Dortmund extended their impressive post-World Cup form with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the Champions League, securing a crucial first-leg advantage ahead of the reverse fixture next month.

Edin Terzic’s side have now claimed seven straight wins in all competitions. After clinching a dramatic 4-3 win against Augsburg, Dortmund defeated Mainz 05 and Bayer Leverkusen before thrashing SC Freiburg 5-1. BVB have won eight of their previous 10 league games, meaning Terzic’s men find themselves just three points shy of first-placed Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table. Dortmund have registered a draw in the 20 league outings this season, recording 13 wins and six losses along the way, with their solitary draw coming against Bayern back in October.

Borussia Dortmund possible starting lineup:

Kobel; Wolf, Sule, Schlotterbeck, Guerreiro; Can; Brendt, Bellingham, Ozcan, Adeyemi; Haller

Hertha Berlin possible starting lineup:

Christensen; Uremovic, Kempf, Dardai; Richter, Tousart, Cigerci, Serdar, Plattenhardt; Lukebakio, Ngankam
