Bucks get the better of Trailblazers, Pelicans hammer Warriors

(Basketball news) The Milwaukee Bucks got the better of the Portland Trail Blazers as they beat them 119-111. For the Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 37 points as he made 16 of his 24 field goal attempts to go along with seven rebounds and six assists in 35 minutes while  Jrue Holiday scored 13 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, Grayson Allen played aggressively and contributed 17 points and eight rebounds. For the Blazers, Anfernee Simons scored 29 points and Josh Hart added 17 points while center Jusuf Nurkic had 16 points and 10 rebounds as Portland lost its third straight game. With this result the Bucks improved their record to 12-4 and are second in the Eastern Conference standings.

''I thought he played with his teammates well and then played well himself,'' Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said. ''Everybody made the right pass. If you don't make the right pass, if you're holding it too much, they can junk it up with all the different things they do defensively. It was good for him to see it go in He scored a lot of different ways.''

''Obviously playing Giannis it's always going to be a tough night,'' Simons said. ''He's just so tough to guard. It took all five of us to guard him.''

''I take a lot of hard hits but at the end of the day it's basketball,'' Antetokounmpo said. ''I enjoy putting my body on the line. It puts a fire in my belly and wakes me up. When I get hit, I kind of enjoy it. I feel I'm part of the game, I'm locked in and I'm being aggressive.''

''There were a couple beautiful possessions, especially in the third quarter, where every single person touched it,'' Allen said. ''It switched sides several times. We had the defense scrambling around and we ended up with a wide-open three or a layup at the rim. It's fun to play like that.''

The New Orleans Pelicans thrashed the defending NBA champions Golden State Warriors 128-83. For the Pelicans, Brandon Ingram scored a season-high 34 points as Williamson played 23 minutes in his first game back from a bruised right foot, scoring nine points. While Devonte Graham scored 19, Jonas Valanciunas had 10 points and 13 rebounds, and CJ McCollum scored 15 points. For the Warriors, Jordan Poole scored 26 points while Kuminga scored 18 points, Moses Moody and JaMychal Green each scored 10. Although the Warriors were without Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins from the lineup in New Orleans as they succumbed to their 9 away defeat.

''He was fantastic all game,'' Pelicans coach Willie Green said of Ingram, who hit 12 of 19 shots and whose repertoire included transition 3s, driving dunks and late-shot-clock turnaround fade-aways. ''He played with force. When he decided to go (to the basket), he went quickly. … It was just good to see him put together an all-around good game.'

''This was just a night for the young guys to get a chance to play and it was a tough night,'' Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. ''New Orleans played really well.''

''I was very excited to be back out there,'' Williamson said. ''We got a great win. The score speaks for itself.''
