Barcelona defeated Espanyol 4-2 to win their 27th La Liga title while Real Madrid overtook Atlético Madrid

(Football News) Barcelona have clinched the La Liga title with a 4-2 win over Espanyol. Two goals by Robert Lewandowski and one each by Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde gave Barcelona a 4-0 lead. Espanyol did get two goals at the end but they turned out to be a consolation. Barcelona have had an incredible season but this is just the start for Xavi. Despite winning the league they were once again very poor in Europe. Next season Barcelona will need a few signings to strengthen their bench which will allow them to compete for all the trophies. Espanyol now need something extraordinary to stay up as they are 4 points off safety.

Real Madrid defeated relegation-threatened Getafe 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu. The win took them above Atletico Madrid in the points table. Carlo Ancelotti played a 2nd string team with the UCL tie away at Manchester City coming up. It wasn’t the best of performances from Los Blancos as Marco Asensio’s long shot was their only goal. Getafe weren’t threatening at all despite playing against a very weak Real Madrid team. Atletico Madrid suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Elch who have already been relegated. Fidel Chaves’ goal in the 41st minute was enough to seal a consolation win. The loss meant that Atlético Madrid dropped down to the 3rd spot behind Real Madrid.

Barcelona have been by far the best team in the league. Attacking wise they have struggled sometimes but defensively they have been immaculate. Andreas Christensen, Marcos Alonso, and Jules Kounde were all new arrivals but they settled in very quickly. Robert Lewandowski has had a good first season and he is well on course to win the Pichichi award for being the top scorer in La Liga. Next season both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will be hoping to mount a better title challenge as Barcelona are likely to get stronger with a couple of more signings.
