Barcelona will play Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park in an attempt to maintain its spot in the top eight of the UEFA Champions League phase.
Both teams have the same record after five Champions League games, although Dortmund has had a difficult start at home and is currently sixth in the Bundesliga. The Catalans will travel to a notoriously hostile and intimidating arena for a matchup between the two top goal-scoring teams in the campaign thus far.
Over the previous month, Hansi Flick’s team has had difficulty in La Liga. As important players who have been overworked start to feel the effects of tiredness, the well-oiled machine from the early days of his reign is starting to show cracks. Barcelona’s lead over Real Madrid has shrunk to just one point in its last five league games, and Los Blancos still have a game left.
However, Flick’s side has held up well in Europe. With two games remaining, a victory over Dortmund would virtually assure the Blaugrana a place in the round of 16.
For the first time since sustaining an injury while playing for Uruguay in the Copa America last summer, Ronald Araújo will be back in Barcelona’s team. For a back line that will require rest in the upcoming weeks, it’s a much-needed boost. In an attempt to instill confidence in his previously underperforming team, Flick is probably going to continue with the lineup he used in Barça’s previous two games.
