(Football news) After going unbeaten in the league since December, Barcelona lost 1-0 to Cadiz at the Nou Camp. The defeat came right after their disappointing Europa League exit to the hands of Frankfurt. Xavi's men were on cloud 9 for a while but have now come back on planet earth with back to back losses which means that they will end the season without a trophy. Barcelona are now 15 points behind league leaders Real Madrid but they do have a game in hand.
Xavi made 3 changes to the side that lost to Frankfurt as he brought in Sergino Dest, Frankie de Jong and Memphis Depay for Oscar Mingueza, Pedri and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Blaugrana started the game well in typical fashion, keeping the ball and being patient. Cadiz had the best chance of the first half as Ruben Sobrino played a pass to Lucas Perez who had the entire goal to aim at but couldn't hit the target. Barcelona were more dominant in the goalless first half but Cadiz looked dangerous on the counter attack.
Three minutes into the 2nd half, Lucas Perez broke the deadlock after a double save by Marc Andre Ter Stegan off Sobrino. Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma made a few excellent saves to deny an equaliser for the home side. Barcelona didn't create enough threat going forward and when they did the finishing just wasn't good enough. This was the first time Cadiz has ever won at the Camp Nou which also takes them out of the relegation zone. The very little hope that Barcelona had of catching Real Madrid has reduced further. The good thing for them is that Sevilla also lost their game which keeps them in 2nd position. Things are going very well for Real Madrid who have a very high chance of sealing the league title at the Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid.
