Babar Azam looking to become second fastest batter to reach 4000 runs in ODI

(Cricket news) Babar Azam has been a top batter for Pakistan in all the three formats this season. He has scored 400 plus runs in ODI and Test matches while in T20 he has scored more than 800 runs. The captain in all the formats, Azam has led the team with the bat and has inspired the team to a successful season across the three formats.

 

The right hander has played 83 ODI’s while scoring 3985 runs and is 15 runs away from becoming the second fastest to 4000 runs. Hashim Amla holds the record as he did it in 81 innings and Vivian Richards did it in 88 innings, Babar has played 81 innings so far and will most likely do it in the 1st ODI in the ongoing West Indies series. Yousuf Youhana is the fastest Pakistani batter to score 4000 runs, he went past the mark in his 110th innings in 2002 against Zimbabwe.

 

Babar made his ODI debut 6 years ago. He made his T20 and Test debut a year later and has been a prolific run scorer for the team since then. The 27 year old is ranked 1 in the ICC ODI rankings among batters, in T20 he is ranked no 3 and in Tests he is ranked no 9. He has the knack to play well in all the formats and to be among the best at the same time. Babar came up the ranks through the under 19 stages and has risen in no time to become one of the best batters in the game for Pakistan.

 

This year Babar has scored 405 runs in 6 matches for the team and is the leading run scorer. He also has 14 hundreds which is the third most for Pakistan, Saeed Anwar leads with 20 centuries and Mohammad Yousuf comes in second with 15 of them. Both the former players have played 200 matches more than Babar and now the current captain has the chances of breaking multiple records in the coming seasons.

 

Babar is currently playing in the West Indies tour of Pakistan, the third and final T20 will be held today. The ODI series will start from December 18 and the Pakistani captain has a lot to look forward to.
