(Football News) Having begun his football journey with the Reliance Foundation Young Champs in Haryana, Ayush Chhikara secured a contract with Mumbai City FC in October 2020. However, he spent his first season on loan at Sudeva Delhi in the 2020-21 season and unfortunately endured a year-long injury setback. Nonetheless, the resilient 20-year-old forward made a remarkable comeback, making his debut for the Mumbai City FC first team in the 2022 Durand Cup.
Ayush’s impressive performances during Mumbai City FC’s successful league campaign last season, culminating in winning the Indian Super League Winners’ Shield 2022-23 in a record-breaking manner, marked him as an emerging talent to watch out for. He also played a significant role in the 2023 Super Cup as part of Mumbai City FC’s all-Indian squad, where he showcased his brilliance by scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory against Chennaiyin FC.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Ayush Chhikara stated, “My time with Mumbai City FC has been an incredible learning experience, and I am thrilled to continue my journey with the club. It’s a privilege to be part of this team, surrounded by talented teammates and working under the guidance of someone like Des Buckingham. The club has shown unwavering support, and I aim to repay their faith by scoring goals whenever I wear the badge.”
Des Buckingham, the coach of Mumbai City FC, acknowledged Ayush Chhikara’s dedication and progress, mentioning his debut and first professional goal. Buckingham praised the young domestic center forward for his unique qualities and positive attributes, emphasizing his potential as an exciting player. With Ayush Chhikara committing to the club’s development for the next three years, Buckingham eagerly anticipates their shared journey and the possibilities that lie ahead.
