(Football news) Aymeric Laporte, a defender for Manchester City, has shared a video on social media announcing his resignation from the team.

Laporte, who spent the previous five and a half years in England, reportedly decided to join Al-Nassr. The former City teammate of Riyad Mahrez, who just joined Al-Ahli, will join the list of recent high-profile players to sign for a Saudi Pro League club.

“Dear Cityzens, today I wanted to share a story with you,” Laporte said in a video on Twitter that went on to show a highlights reel of his time at Man City.

“This is now our history. Thank you and see you really soon.”

Centre-back In his social media message, Laporte continued, “It has lasted for five and a half unforgettable years.

“Plenty of memories that I will keep forever close to my heart.”

After 180 appearances for City, Laporte will depart the Etihad, with his final outing coming off the bench during their opening-day Premier League victory against Burnley.

He was not included in the matchday squad for last weekend’s victory over Newcastle after being limited to a spot among the replacements for both the UEFA Super Cup victory over Sevilla and the Community Shield loss to Arsenal.

Laporte has fallen even further down City’s pecking order as a result of Josko Gvardiol’s transfer from RB Leipzig.

This summer, teams in the Saudi Pro League, all of which are owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, signed a large number of the finest players in the world.

In the past year, players like Jordan Henderson, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Roberto Firmino, and Cristiano Ronaldo have all moved from the Premier League to the Middle Eastern league.

After winning 13 awards during his tenure at City, including five Premier League championships and the Champions League last season, Laporte will now follow suit.
