Australia looking to jump across the Caribbean hurdle for semi final berth at ICC T20 World Cup

(Cricket news) The Australian team are currently placed second in Group 1 of the super twelve at the ICC T20 World Cup. They have played four matches and have got 6 points as they lost their third match to table toppers England. The Aussies already have a better net run rate than third placed South Africa and a win will put more pressure on the proteas who also play their final group match today.

Australia is riding on a huge victory over Bangladesh in their previous match as their bowling performance in the tournament has been top notch. Adam Zampa picked up a five wicket haul in the last match and is the team’s leading wicket taker with 10 scalps. Mitchell Starc has picked up six along with Josh Hazlewood who has four from four. The pace attack once again will be in full force as Pat Cummins has also been economical in all the matches, Zampa has struck in every match and once again will be the player to watch out for in the bowling attack.

The batting side has not been striking well as openers Aaron Finch and David Warner have been the leading run scorers but there has been only one half century from the team in four matches. Glen Maxwell has to come in form as his team needs some huge hitting and Steven Smith too needs to bring his stable batting into the side. They are the favourites in the clash although the West Indies have had more success in the shortest format.

Defending champion West Indies have had a rough run at the tournament so far and have already lost the semifinal spot which means they have nothing to lose. T20 star Dwayne Bravo will be playing his last international match for the team and would want to end his career on a winning note. They have won one match out of four and are currently placed fifth as a victory will push them to fourth place.

Shimron Hetmyer was on fire in the last match when he scored 81* against Sri Lanka in a losing cause and has been the highest scorer for the team with 100 runs in 4 matches. The likes of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard haven’t performed well this time and will look to hit huge ones in the final match.

Among the bowlers, Akeal Hosein has been the leading wicket taker with 4 wickets in as many matches. Ravi Rampaul, Bravo and Jason Holder have not struck so far and would want to go out in style. The two time champions have the knack to stage upsets and have enough arsenal to do it.
