Australia beat spirited Namibia in a low scoring encounter

(Cricket news) The Australian U19 team escaped a major upset in the ICC U19 CWC, as they edge ahead of a spirited Namibian side by four wickets.

Being put into bat Namibia were rolled over for 91 in 33.1 overs, thanks to Callum Vidler (4/17) and Tom Straker (3/16). The Namibian batters never looked comfortable in the middle as they kept losing wickets in quick successions. Captain Alexander and Vuuren were the only two batters who managed to touch the 20 run mark and somehow took Namibia to a score of 91

When Australia came in for the chase it looked more of a formality, but that was not the case. The Namibian bowlers looked spirited and were up for the challenge. They ensured that the chase was not a cake walk for the Aussies.

The Australians found it tough to get going. They lost wickets in quick successions and were reduced to 46/4 inside the powerplay and 46/4 soon became 57/5, kudos to some excellent bowling from Brassell (3/28) and Badenhorst (2/29).

But, the Australia skipper Hugh Weibgen, then stood tall and played a captain’s knock of an unbeaten 39 off 43 balls to take his side home, under immense pressure. Australia chased down the target in 19.5 overs, escaping what could have been a great upset in the U19 World Cup.

SCORECARD : Namibia – 91/10 (33.1), Van Vuuren 29, Alexander 21; Vidler 4/17, Straker 3/16 ; Australia – 95/6 (19.5), Weibgen 39, Brassell 3/28, Badenhorst 2/29
