Women’s Big Bash League team Sydney Sixers retain cricketer Angela Reakes for a further season

In the latest cricket news, All-rounder Angela Reakes has signed a one-year deal to remain with the Sydney Sixers for Women's Big Bash League – 7.

One of the most experienced players in the Women’s Big Bash League, Reakes returned “home” in the last edition.

WBBL|07 will be her 5th season with Sixers including the initial three seasons of the competition where the club won the WBBL|02 and WBBL|03 titles.

She has now represented the club in 60 games.

“I’m pumped about re-signing,” the 30-year-old exercise physiologist said.

“I’m really looking forward to it … a few things didn’t go our way last year (and) it’s always exciting to start a new season.”

Reakes spent WBBL|04 with the Melbourne Stars before an Achilles injury ruled her out from the following edition.

The ACT Meteors Skipper is a player who brings extensive domestic experience to any team she plays for, and her captaincy is the ideal complement to Sixers stars Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy and Ashleigh Gardner.

“They’ve obviously got a high load, particularly Ash and Pez, batting high and bowling a lot of overs. Just trying to help with fielding angles, hotspots for our boundary riders, and add another element of leadership to help take the load off those girls.”

Ben Sawyer, Sixers WBBL Head Coach is delighted that Reakes had signed on again given the value she brought to the side on and off the pitch.

“On the field she’s very athletic, she’s a good finisher with the bat, runs well between the wickets and is a great fielder. But off the field, she’s probably one of the people that brings the group together in all kinds of situations,” Sawyer said.

Speaking on what makes it so special to represent the Sixers, Reakes commented: “I think it’s the professionalism of the set up.”

“I think we’re at an interesting stage where we’ve had two seasons that haven’t really gone our way.

“I’m hoping for really big things this year, we obviously really love winning and we’ve missed (that feeling) the last couple of seasons. I think everyone is hungry to try and get their hands on a lot more wins and hopefully reach a Final this year.”
